NISOD: Reaching Students Where They Are: Social Media and Education Online

This event is free to NISOD members, which all LSCO employees are. If you have not signed up with the NISOD website before, be sure to use your LSCO email.

As educators, we often find ourselves at odds with our students and their cell phones. However, our students treat their cell phones the same way we used to treat books and other fountains of knowledge. More than ever, students are using their phones to study and to communicate. Instead of banning the cell phone, we need to find ways to embrace it. This webinar provides a crash course on how to use social media, such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube, to provide instruction to your students. Learn easy video software editing tools and ways to become “selfie” and “influencer” ready, when the last thing you want to do is spend time on social media.

Using TikTok in the past few months, I have reached millions of people and have gained a small following. I have also reached thousands with Reels through Facebook and Instagram. I have done this without actually appearing on camera and with very simple and easy-to-follow videos. This session is designed to give you the tools to start using social media as soon as the session ends.

While it isn't required, you may want to download the Canva app and create a free profile on the app prior to the session.
